Merit has sponsored two talented sailers, K.C. Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar, who represent India in national and international level sailing events, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Asian Games bronze-medallists from 2018 qualified for their maiden Olympics in April 2021, after finishing top at the Mussanah Open Championships in Oman.
They started their careers at the same club in Chennai, where they sailed on the same side in team events. However, as their careers progressed, they found themselves competing against each other at the national level.
The 49er class in which they compete in, requires two members on board to take different roles while sailing. This partnership of Thakkar-Ganapathy compliments each other well. So much so, that there are times when both sailors have had the same song on their mind, and sang along together while at sea.
They finished 17th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, although they still have a long way to go, their dream of doing well in their next competition just got a lot closer.
With Merit at their side, this promises to be an exciting partnership to help these fine young men to greater heights.
